Ο Flying Fortress είναι μία από τις σημαντικότερους νέους εκφραστές της παγκόσμιας street art σκηνής. Με εδρα το Μοναχο της Γερμανιας, ξεκινησε με το κλασσικο graffiti απο τις αρχες της δεκαετιας του 90. Υστερα απο μερικα χρονια ενιωσε "κολλημενος" σε μονοδρομο, γι' αυτο σταματησε το writing και αφοσιωθηκε στις γραφιστικες σπουδες του. Επιστρέφοντας με νεες ιδεες και επιρροες, αναγεννηθηκε στην αρχη της χιλιετιας και επεστρεψε στους δρομους μαζι με τα διασημα του Teddy Troops. Πρωτα εμφανιστηκαν σε αφισες, stickers και σαν κομματια σε τοιχο, αλλα αργοτερα εμφανιστηκαν και σε τρισδιαστατη μορφη , σαν urban vinyl toy. Σήμερα, οι «Στρατιές» του συνεχίζουν να εισβάλουν επιτυχώς ανά τον κόσμο, κατακτώμντας δημόσιους και ιδιωτικούς χώρους, από το Βερολινο και το Λος Αντζελες μέχρι το Τοκυο και τη Νεα ζηλανδια. Τον Μάιο του 2011 οι δημοφιλείς χαρακτήρες θα κατακτήσουν και τη Θεσσαλονίκη, μέσα από το αρχηγείο της The Box Gallery! Internationally renowned street artist Flying Fortress is coming to Greece - THE BOX Gallery, Thessaloniki, in particular - to present new works and also rare, limited edition designer toys from his personal collection. This is the first solo exhibition of Flying Fortress in Greece. The news are bound to cause waves of emotion to the genre’s fans. For those not in the know however, be prepared for an entirely new experience. The artist is planning to unroll his creative talent unleashed, through artworks and direct interventions on the gallery walls, inside and outside of it and, in general, wherever his inspiration takes him. Flying Fortress is one of the most interesting players of the international street art scene. Based in Munich he started to do classic graffiti in the early 90’s. After a couple of years he felt himself stuck in a one-way alley so he quit writing and focused on his graphic studies. Back with new ideas and influences he arose again at the beginning of the millennium and hit the streets back with his infamous Teddy Troops. First they appeared on posters, stickers and as pieces on the walls but later they also turned into the third dimension as an urban vinyl toy. The Troops are still getting sent out to occupy the public and private space. They have been traveling around the world for exhibitions to places like Paris, Barcelona, London, Berlin, Los Angeles, New York, Tokyo, Melbourne and New Zealand. This May they are coming over to occupy Thessaloniki, using The Box Gallery as headquarters! The exhibition, curated by Simoni Fontana and Argyris Saraslanidis, is presented under the auspices of the Cultural department of the Municipality of Thessaloniki and in association with Zoltan Tribe, Propaganda Tollin Co. and artAZ.
